Marc Garside
Marc Garside is the Founder/CEO of EPIC Percussion, established in 2013. He has been a percussion designer and instructor for the marching arts in central PA since 2002, working with several very successful high school programs.
He has been the percussion caption-head and arranger for the White Sabers Drum and Bugle Corps, a GE judge in Tournament of Bands, Percussion Director for the TOB All-Star Band that performs in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade, and a music and/or drill designer as well as instructor for several high school programs, including Williamsport (PA) High School, Lake Lehman High School, Bloomsburg High School, Loyalsock High School, Tyrone High School, Hamilton West High School, and South Williamsport High School.
Marc was also formerly the percussion caption-head and arranger for the Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps and the Director and Staff/Program Coordinator for the Penn State Indoor Drumline. This indoor season, Marc and his team at EPIC started the EPIC Cadets indoor drumline, which is comprised of students between 4th and 8th grade in the Williamsport region.
He also manages EPIC Percussion’s daily and retail operations and oversees the studio which has 50 private lesson students and several concert ensembles. Many of his students have gone on to become music teachers, instructors, show designers, and performers with top DCI and WGI ensembles.
Travis Peterman
Born and raised in Newark, Delaware, Travis Peterman began his performing career with the All-State Junior and Senior Bands. Quickly finding a passion for the marching arts, he went on to perform with the Reading Buccaneers, United Percussion, the Blue Stars, and Rhythm X.
He began his drum corps teaching career with the Cadets2 as the snare technician and battery choreographer, remaining with the corps for three years. Travis previously held the position of the director, program coordinator, and battery arranger for Cadets Winter Percussion during its three year tenure. He served as the battery arranger and director of percussion for the Bushwackers Drum and Bugle Corps from 2016 through the 2019 season.
Currently, Travis is the percussion caption supervisor and battery co-arranger at Carolina Crown and the program director of the George Mason University Indoor Drumline, where he is also a battery and visual designer. Travis joined the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps for the 2019 summer, serving as the battery designer and consultant. He is an accomplished adjudicator with circuits such as SCPA, KIDA, and AIA.
Travis is honored to have studied under educators such as Thom Hannum, Tom Aungst, Tim Jackson, Jim Ancona, Joel Hilbert, Tim Fairbanks, Darick Kelly, Rich Hammond, and Chris Feist. He is a proud member of the Vic Firth, Pearl/Adams, and Remo education teams.
Outside of the percussion world, Travis holds an A.A. in Criminal Justice from Delaware Tech, a B.S. in Behavioral Science from Wilmington University, and a M.Ed. in School Counseling (also from WilmU).
Tommy Van Der Grift
Tommy Van Der Grift began his marching arts experience performing with Pennsauken High School Marching Band (NJ), playing trumpet, performing in the color guard, and being drum major. He also performed with their indoor guard, “A Touch of Class,” where he was captain and with Wysteria Winterguard from Middle Township (NJ).
Tommy has marched with WGI indoor color guards Extraordinaire Dance Ensemble (PA), Light Brigade (PA), and Northern Lights (OR). He continued his performing experience with West Chester University Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band during college and danced with the West Chester University Dance Productions.
His love for the activity continued with drum corps. He started out with Southern Knights (NJ) and Jersey Surf (NJ) and continued with the Madison Scouts, where he won a bronze medal in DCI I&E. His DCA experience includes the world champion Reading Buccaneers (PA), winning a gold medal and being awarded “Rookie of the Year” and “Most Inspirational Member.” He then marched Fusion Core (NJ), where he was color guard captain for two years, winning the 2014 and 2018 World Champion Color Guard award.
Tommy’s passion for the arts has led him to vast international teaching opportunities. He is in his 12th year teaching Alliance Dance Performance Ensemble from England. Tommy is currently the color guard caption head at Pennsbury HS (PA), designer, choreographer, and weapons specialist for Morristown HS (NJ), choreographer and weapons specialist for Port Chester HS (NY), winter guard designer/choreographer for Council Rock HS North (PA), designer/choreographer for Vintage Winterguard (NJ) and weapons specialist for CoMotion Winterguard of Highland Youth Performance Ensembles (NJ).
Prior teaching experience includes: Tomball HS (TX), Iola HS (TX), Lyndon B Johnson Early College HS (Austin, TX), Gateway Regional HS (NJ), Triton Regional HS (NJ), Daniel Boone HS (PA), Kingsway Regional HS (NJ), Pennsauken HS (NJ), Wilson HS (West Lawn, PA), Haverford HS (PA), Williamstown HS (NJ), Malverne HS (Long Island, NY), Northampton Area HS (PA), Manheim Township HS (PA), Spring-Ford Area HS (PA), Light Brigade World Colorguard (PA), and Cumberland Regional HS Indoor Percussion (NJ).
Key Poulan
Key Poulan is a composer and arranger with an expertise in the marching arts. He has written for the world’s most famous drum corps including the Santa Clara Vanguard, Mandarins, Glassmen, Spirit of Atlanta, Cascades, Spartans, Sunrisers, Hurricanes, Caballeros, Millennium (Italy), Juliana (Netherlands), Siamyth (Thailand), Star United and the Mass Brass Mini Corps. He was the wind arranger for the World Champion Chromium Winds (The Cavaliers) during their first 2 years. As the owner of Key Poulan Music, he has been recognized as one of the country’s top arrangers and composers in the area of contemporary marching band, has several concert band works to his credit.
His marching band arrangements have won several national titles at the Bands of America Grand Nationals Championships. His works have won many state titles throughout the United States and have been performed around the world. His transcription of “The Promise of Living” from Copland’s “Tender Land” was extremely well received at the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival and his original works “Carnegie Fanfare and Dance” and “A Fortune in Steel” premiered at New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
Dan Bryan
Dan Bryan teaches music for the Stanislaus Union School District. Prior to this appointment, he held positions at Los Banos High School, Grace M. Davis High School, and Joseph A. Gregori High School, where he founded the music department in 2010.
Additionally, he works with CSU Stanislaus as a student teacher supervisor in the Teacher Education Department. He acts as an adjudicator throughout the United States, and has served as judge for Drum Corps International. Currently, he serves on the design staffs for Genesis (TX), Raiders (NJ), and Arsenal (NM) Drum and Bugle Corps.
He is an eight-time Winter Guard International World Championship Medal winner (and seven-time WGI Finalist) as an instructor/composer; additionally, he is published internationally through Key Poulan Music and GPG Publications. His music has been performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, as well as the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Some of his recent projects include the CSU, Fresno Bulldog Marching Band, Nor Cal Indoor (2017 WGI World Championship Percussion Finalist), and Clovis North HS Marching Band (2017 Midwest Clinic performer).
He is a graduate of Modesto Junior College and CSU Fresno, and holds his Master’s Degree in Band Conducting from Sam Hoston State University. He has served on the boards of the California Band Directors Association, Stanislaus County Music Educators Association, and the Central Valley Guard and Percussion Circuit. He is in demand as a clinician and guest conductor throughout California, and has presented at the California All State Music Educators Conference, Southern California Band and Orchestra Association, and Cazadero Music Camp (Conductor).
Dan is co-owner (with his wife, Lindsay) of Pitopia Percussion, is a teacher/endorser for Innovative Percussion, and is the proud father of his favorite little tornado, Kate.
