The Raiders administration and board have evaluated options for a 2021 season that would have included DCI performance opportunities in a safe environment.
Given the significant resources required to implement the safety protocols recommended to ensure the safety of members participating in the 2021 Season, the Raiders have reluctantly determined that it is best not to return to the field with an in-person show this summer.
However, we continue to explore other options to provide excellent marching arts experience, entertainment, and training. Building upon the successful virtual seasons for the Winter Star Indoor Guard and X-Stream Percussion Ensemble (both sister programs of the Raiders), we are considering a continuation of our virtual drum corps program that would include interactive rehearsals, individual and group instruction, master classes, and virtual “ensemble” rehearsals where performers will be able to see and hear themselves in an ensemble setting weekly. The season could include participation in virtual DCI events.
If conditions and safety guidelines permit, we hope to include an in-person outdoor event which could become a celebration for the 30th anniversary of the Raiders.
While the above plans are not set in stone yet, we wanted to make you aware of these possible opportunities this coming summer. At the same time, planning is underway for the 2022 season.
We hope that by Thanksgiving there will be more certainty with public health, and we will be able to hold our traditional Thanksgiving weekend camp to launch the 2022 season.
